ABOUT GENESIS

In a world undergoing convulsive technological and political change, Genesis partners with key actors to deliver urgent, lasting impact in critical areas. Genesis, an impact consultancy founded, incorporated and headquartered in Africa, has worked in 52 African countries and more than 100 countries globally. Uniquely, Genesis is focused on the Young World - the arc of countries with young populations stretching across Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and parts of Southeast Asia.

Unencumbered by legacy systems, these nations can pioneer innovative models and chart a new path to prosperity. However, converting this potential into developmental gains is not guaranteed. At Genesis, we work alongside local partners to turn this opportunity into shared progress - helping the Young World move faster, more sustainably and on its own terms.

About Genesis’ Annual Graduate Intake

At Genesis, we are committed to nurturing exceptional talent that is passionate about impact. As part of the firm’s growth, Genesis welcomes cohorts of Young Professionals each year who are driven to solve complex, real-world problems.

This International Round focuses on, but is not limited to, students, recent postgraduates, and early-career professionals studying at leading universities in the United Kingdom, Kenya, and across the African continent.

We believe that early-career professionals benefit from spending time in person with their colleagues. As such most Young Professionals are based at our hubs in South Africa (Johannesburg, Cape Town) or Kenya (Nairobi). Exceptions may be made for outstanding candidates in other locations on a case-by-case basis. Candidates must possess the legal right to work in the location for which they apply.

What our work offers:

Genesis offers a unique alternative to traditional global management consultancies. We combine boutique agility, a flat organisational structure, and direct access to senior leadership with high-impact, real-world project delivery.

The Genesis Deal

  • Meaningful Impact from Day 1: Work on high-stakes, real-world problems alongside decision-makers in the public, private, and donor sectors, often working on projects outside your home country.
  • Fast-Paced Professional Development: A steep learning curve supported by structured L&D programmes (including our proprietary G+ problem-solving methodology), formal mentorship, and a culture that provides a safe space to learn, fail, and accelerate your career.
  • AI-Augmented Consulting: Work in a firm genuinely committed to equipping junior consultants with cutting-edge AI tools, empowering you to move past manual production and focus on critical synthesis and problem-solving.
  • Collaborative & Pro-Social Culture: Join high-performing, passionate teams that value transparency, mutual support, intellectual debate, and real teamwork.

The ideal Genesis candidate carries a balanced combination of powerful intellect, digital fluency, strong technical skills, and a consulting character to match. Such candidates:

  • Are passionate, self-motivated, resilient, and energetic problem solvers
  • Value integrity and exhibit ethical behaviour
  • Are analytical thinkers and fast learners with an excellent tertiary record

Core Aptitudes & Dispositions:

  • Positive Scepticism: The ability to critically question, interrogate, and contextualise data and AI-generated outputs rather than accepting them verbatim.
  • Intellectual Curiosity: Fast learners who are excited by ambiguous problems and bring a creative, "big-picture" perspective to finding solutions.
  • Collaborative: An active inclination to engage with team members, senior leaders, and clients, coupled with the confidence to communicate proactively when navigating project challenges.
  • Adaptability: High resilience and agility to jump across multiple project streams, balance shifting priorities, and move deliverables forward in a dynamic environment.
  • Implementation Mindset: A drive to get things done, balancing academic rigour with practical time and budget constraints.

Qualifications & Technical Competencies:

  • Academics: Postgraduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics, PPE, Public Policy, International Development, Development Studies, Business Science/Accounting, Health Economics, or related quantitative/social science disciplines is strongly preferred.
  • Analytical & Quantitative Skills: Strong ability to handle, clean, and interpret quantitative or qualitative data. Foundational comfort with analytical software (e.g., Stata, R, Python, Excel) is advantageous.
  • Digital & AI Fluency: Comfort and active curiosity in utilising modern AI tools (e.g., Gemini, Claude) to streamline research and workflows effectively.
  • Communication: Strong English communication, storytelling, and writing skills. Business proficiency in French or Portuguese is highly desirable for regional project expansion.

We hire young talent with the belief that they can become partners at Genesis. Each step of your career journey depends on you.
